Terry Smallwood

May 21, 1961 - November 2, 2023

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Terrence (Terry) Smallwood at the age of 62. He passed away on November 2, 2023 in Oakville, Ontario. Born in 1961 in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Terry moved to Toronto, Ontario in 1979 to study and eventually settled in Oakville. Terry will be deeply missed by his wife of 34 years, Clarissa Loyson and his son, Spencer Smallwood. Terry is also survived by his mother, Lisbeth Forrestal, brother Larry Smallwood (Shelley Fletcher), sisters Wendy Hynes (Gerry), Janet Wikene (Christian) and sister-in-law Karen Barre along with a large circle of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends. Terry is predeceased by his father David Smallwood, stepfather Gordon Barre and brother Richard Barre. Terry had an insatiable desire for all things technical. His passion for building and troubleshooting electronics was both a hobby and a profession. He was our resident technical support for family and friends as he could solve any challenge presented to him with unwavering determination. Terry was a voracious reader, consuming everything from history to politics to science fiction. He had a particular passion for Star Wars and Star Trek and he loved frequenting the conventions, Comicons and Fan Expos. His strong sense of curiosity drove him to tirelessly seek out new and interesting subjects gathering a deeper understanding of the world around him. Because he had no qualms questioning the status quo, he would have numerous animated debates with anyone willing to take him on until he wore them down or brought them over to the “Dark Side”. His gift of the gab along with his witty sense of humour are memories we will cherish and hold close to our hearts. Terry, your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. The family would like to thank the staff at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for their care and support. As per Terry’s wishes, a cremation will take place and no funeral service will be held. Thank you to those who have reached out with kind words and support. We are eternally grateful. For those who wish to honour Terry’s memory, the family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Diabetes Canada (https://www.diabetes.ca) or a charity of your choice.
